Preparing the Filling

The classic filling for Greek dolmades includes:

  • Long-grain rice, such as Basmati or Greek rice
  • Fresh herbs like dill, mint, and parsley
  • Onion, finely chopped
  • Olive oil
  • Lemon juice
  • Salt and pepper
  • Optional: ground meat (beef or lamb) for a heartier version

Mix all ingredients thoroughly. The herbs should be fresh and fragrant, and the rice should be partially cooked or rinsed to prevent overcooking during steaming.

Rolling and Cooking the Dolmades
