Discover a delicious and healthy Caribbean-style steamed fish recipe that combines fresh vegetables and vibrant spices. Perfect for a family dinner or a special gathering, this dish captures the essence of Caribbean flavors with its bold seasoning and tender fish.

Ingredients Needed

  • 4 fish fillets (snapper, grouper, or your choice)
  • 2 cups sliced bell peppers (red, yellow, green)
  • 1 cup sliced carrots
  • 1 cup sliced zucchini
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 small onion, sliced
  • 2 tablespoons lime juice
  • 2 teaspoons Caribbean seasoning (or allspice, paprika, thyme)
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Fresh cilantro for garnish
  • Olive oil

Preparation Steps

Begin by marinating the fish fillets with lime juice, Caribbean seasoning, salt, and pepper. Let it sit for about 15 minutes to absorb the flavors. Meanwhile, prepare the vegetables by slicing the bell peppers, carrots, zucchini, and onion.

In a large steamer or a deep skillet with a lid, heat a tablespoon of olive oil. Sauté the garlic and onion until fragrant. Add the sliced vegetables and cook for 3-4 minutes, just until they begin to soften.

Place the marinated fish fillets on top of the vegetables in the steamer. Cover with a lid and steam over medium heat for about 10-12 minutes, or until the fish is cooked through and flakes easily with a fork.

Serving Suggestions

Garnish the steamed fish with freshly chopped cilantro. Serve hot with a side of steamed rice or traditional Caribbean fried plantains for a complete meal. The combination of tender fish and flavorful vegetables makes this dish a true celebration of Caribbean cuisine.
