Making fruit-flavored hard candies at home can be a fun and rewarding experience. Using natural extracts ensures your candies are delicious and free from artificial flavors. This guide will walk you through the steps to create your own tasty treats.

Ingredients Needed

  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 2/3 cup light corn syrup
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1 teaspoon natural fruit extract (e.g., lemon, raspberry, orange)
  • Food coloring (optional)
  • Candy thermometer
  • Candy molds or a greased baking sheet

Preparation Steps

Start by gathering all your ingredients and tools. Prepare your candy molds or line a baking sheet with parchment paper. This will prevent sticking and make removal easier.

Cooking the Candy Mixture

In a medium saucepan, combine the sugar, corn syrup, and water. Place over medium heat and stir constantly until the sugar dissolves completely. Attach a candy thermometer to the side of the pan. Bring the mixture to a boil without stirring.

Cook until the temperature reaches 300°F (149°C), known as the hard crack stage. Remove from heat immediately once this temperature is reached.

Adding Flavors and Coloring

Allow the mixture to cool slightly for a minute or two. Then, carefully stir in your natural fruit extract and a few drops of food coloring if desired. Mix thoroughly to evenly distribute the flavor and color.

Pouring and Setting

Pour the hot mixture into your prepared molds or onto the baking sheet. Be cautious as the syrup is extremely hot. Let the candies cool completely at room temperature until they harden, which usually takes about 30 minutes.

Finishing Touches

Once cooled and hardened, remove the candies from the molds or break them into pieces if using a sheet. Store your fruit-flavored candies in an airtight container to keep them fresh. Enjoy your homemade treats!
