Seafood empanadas are a delicious and satisfying snack that can be easily made at home. Perfect for parties or a quick treat, these empanadas combine flaky pastry with a flavorful seafood filling. Follow this simple guide to create your own tasty seafood empanadas.

Ingredients Needed

  • 1 package of pre-made pie crust or homemade dough
  • 1 cup cooked and chopped shrimp
  • 1 cup cooked crab meat or canned crab
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/2 cup chopped bell peppers
  • 1/4 cup chopped fresh cilantro
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)

Preparation Steps

Start by preparing the filling. In a skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add chopped onions and garlic, cooking until translucent. Stir in bell peppers and cook for another 2-3 minutes. Add cooked shrimp and crab meat, then season with paprika, salt, and pepper. Mix well and cook for 2-3 minutes. Remove from heat and stir in chopped cilantro. Let the filling cool slightly.

Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Roll out the pie crust or dough and cut into circles using a cookie cutter or a glass. Place a spoonful of the seafood filling in the center of each circle.

Fold the dough over the filling to form a half-moon shape. Press the edges together and crimp with a fork to seal. Place the empanadas on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Brush the tops with beaten egg for a shiny finish.

Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, or until golden brown. Remove from the oven and let cool slightly before serving.

Serving Suggestions

Serve your seafood empanadas warm with a side of salsa, sour cream, or a squeeze of fresh lime. They make a great appetizer or snack and are sure to impress family and friends with their delicious flavor.
