Preparing authentic Cajun jambalaya with sausage and seafood is a rewarding culinary experience that brings the taste of the bayou to your table. This guide will walk you through the steps to create a delicious and authentic jambalaya.

Ingredients Needed

  • 1 pound smoked sausage, sliced
  • 1 pound shrimp, peeled and deveined
  • 1 pound crabmeat (optional)
  • 1 large onion, chopped
  • 1 green bell pepper, chopped
  • 3 celery stalks, chopped
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 can diced tomatoes
  • 2 cups long-grain rice
  • 4 cups chicken broth
  • 2 teaspoons Cajun seasoning
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil

Cooking Instructions

Start by heating the vegetable oil in a large pot over medium heat. Add the sliced sausage and cook until browned, about 5 minutes. Remove the sausage and set aside.

In the same pot, add the chopped onions, bell peppers, and celery. Sauté until vegetables are tender, about 5-7 minutes. Add the minced garlic and cook for another minute.

Stir in the Cajun seasoning, smoked paprika, salt, and pepper. Then add the diced tomatoes and cooked sausage. Mix well and cook for 2-3 minutes to blend flavors.

Pour in the chicken broth and bring to a boil. Add the rice, reduce the heat to low, cover, and simmer for 20 minutes, or until the rice is tender and has absorbed most of the liquid.

Once the rice is cooked, gently fold in the shrimp and crabmeat if using. Cover and cook for an additional 5-7 minutes until the seafood is cooked through and opaque.

Taste and adjust seasoning if needed. Serve hot, garnished with chopped green onions or parsley if desired. Enjoy your authentic Cajun jambalaya!
