Traditional Thai iced tea, known as “Cha Yen,” is a popular and refreshing beverage enjoyed across Thailand. Its vibrant orange color and sweet, milky flavor make it a favorite for hot days. This step-by-step guide will help you make authentic Thai iced tea at home.

Ingredients Needed

  • 2 tablespoons Thai tea leaves (or strong black tea)
  • 1 cup boiling water
  • 2-3 tablespoons sugar (adjust to taste)
  • 1/4 cup sweetened condensed milk
  • 1/4 cup evaporated milk or evaporated creamer
  • Ice cubes

Step 1: Brew the Tea

Place the Thai tea leaves in a heatproof container. Pour boiling water over the tea leaves and steep for about 5 minutes until the tea is strong and vibrant in color. Strain the tea to remove the leaves and set aside.

Step 2: Sweeten the Tea

While the tea is still hot, add sugar and stir until fully dissolved. Adjust the sweetness according to your preference. Let the tea cool to room temperature or chill in the refrigerator for faster cooling.

Step 3: Assemble the Drink

Fill a glass with ice cubes. Pour the cooled tea over the ice, filling the glass about three-quarters full. Add a splash of sweetened condensed milk for sweetness and creaminess. Top with evaporated milk or evaporated creamer for a rich, milky finish.

Step 4: Serve and Enjoy

Stir gently to combine the flavors. Serve immediately with a straw and enjoy your homemade authentic Thai iced tea!
