Step-by-Step Canning Process

1. Fill the Water Bath Canner

Fill your water bath canner with enough water to fully cover the jars by at least an inch. Bring the water to a gentle boil.

2. Prepare the Jars and Lids

Place the sterilized jars on a clean towel. Keep the lids in hot water to soften the sealing compound, making them easier to seal.

3. Fill the Jars with Jam or Jelly

Using a funnel, carefully ladle the hot jam or jelly into the jars, leaving about ¼ inch of headspace. Wipe the rims with a clean cloth to remove any residue.

4. Seal the Jars

Place the lids on the jars and screw on the metal bands until just fingertip tight. Do not overtighten.
