Ingredients

  • 4 slices of thick bread (brioche or challah works best)
  • 1 cup brewed espresso or strong coffee
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 cup coffee liqueur (optional)
  • 1 cup mascarpone cheese
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 2 tablespoons powdered sugar
  • Cocoa powder for dusting
  • Fresh coffee beans or chocolate shavings for garnish

Preparation

Start by brewing a strong cup of coffee and let it cool slightly. In a shallow bowl, whisk together eggs, milk, sugar, vanilla extract, and coffee liqueur if using. Dip each slice of bread into the mixture, soaking well on both sides.

Heat a skillet or griddle over medium heat and lightly grease it. Cook the soaked bread slices until golden brown on both sides, about 2-3 minutes per side. Remove and keep warm.

Meanwhile, prepare the mascarpone topping. In a mixing bowl, beat mascarpone, heavy cream, and powdered sugar until smooth and slightly fluffy. Transfer to a piping bag or spread directly.

Assembly and Serving

Place the cooked French toast on serving plates. Pipe or spread the mascarpone mixture over each slice. Dust generously with cocoa powder and garnish with coffee beans or chocolate shavings for an extra touch.

Serve immediately with additional brewed coffee or a drizzle of espresso for an authentic tiramisu experience. Enjoy this indulgent breakfast that beautifully marries the flavors of Italy with a breakfast favorite.
