Rwandan cuisine offers a delicious and flavorful dish known as Brochettes, which are skewered pieces of seasoned meat grilled to perfection. This traditional recipe is easy to prepare at home and provides a taste of Rwanda’s rich culinary heritage.

Ingredients Needed

  • 500 grams of beef or goat meat, cut into cubes
  • 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon of paprika
  • 1 teaspoon of ground black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon of salt
  • 1 teaspoon of ground ginger
  • Juice of 1 lemon
  • Skewers (wooden or metal)

Preparation Steps

Start by preparing the marinade. In a bowl, combine vegetable oil, minced garlic, paprika, black pepper, salt, ground ginger, and lemon juice. Mix well to create a flavorful marinade.

Place the meat cubes into the marinade, ensuring each piece is well coated. Cover the bowl and let it marinate in the refrigerator for at least 2 hours, or overnight for more flavor.

Preheat your grill or grill pan to medium-high heat. While it heats, thread the marinated meat pieces onto the skewers, leaving a little space between each piece for even cooking.

Grill the skewers for about 10-15 minutes, turning occasionally to ensure the meat cooks evenly and develops a nice char. The meat should be cooked through but still juicy.

Serving Suggestions

Serve the Rwandan Brochettes hot, accompanied by traditional side dishes such as:

  • Steamed plantains
  • Fresh vegetable salads
  • Boiled yams
  • Rwandan spicy sauce (Isombe)

This dish is perfect for family gatherings, outdoor barbecues, or any special occasion where you want to enjoy authentic Rwandan flavors at home.
